Our Work
Project Humane is first of its kind organisation in Nepal to impart dog-focused humane education.
We conduct awareness programs in schools and orphanages to educate children about street dogs and responsible pet ownership. Our activities focus on safety – for animals and humans – as well as caring connections to be made with street dogs. Humane Education in Nepal’s schools can help to end animal abuse and neglect, since it helps in eliminating the negative stigma regarding stray dogs which have been passed down from many generations. It teaches kindness, compassion and empathy toward street dogs – and all companion animals. We mentor students to become animal welfare ambassadors, prevent animal suffering and take an active role in providing hope to animals in our community.
We actively collaborate with Community Dog Welfare, a rescue shelter located in Kathmandu, as a part of our weeklong educational workshops in schools, giving the students a hands-on experience with rescued stray dogs in Nepal along with learning how a dog shelter runs.
We have also organized weekly de-worming programs for street dogs in different neighbourhoods alongside raising awareness in the community and providing care for injured street dogs. Healthcare included both, food as well as treatment for any infections or wounds. To reduce the potential risk of rabies infection among local residents and dogs, and to stop the poisoning of street dogs in city and suburbs, we have also administered mass rabies vaccinations to street dogs, spayed dogs and educated children in the community about safe humane-canine interactions. Our focus in the community outreach programs was to interact with the community/children about caring for stray dogs in their locality and safe interactions to prevent dog bites.
